As an educational tool we examined the Umami Tea House designed and built by Kengo Kuma in the Portland Japanese Garden

Using only photographs taken on the sight we reverse engineered the specifications of the structure, gaining a greater appreciation of the design.

Using our measurements, scale drawings, and models were created, all with the intent of capturing the character of the space.

The Tea House is both floating, cantilevered in space, and nestled snugly in the pervasive trees; the same ones that give the space it’s majesty.

The green roofs inspired my design of my Council Crest Pavilion project.
